Qatar National Week
10th - 17th December, 2013
We will be posting more information on his website closer to the date: Please check for more information and schedules. Further information will be sent out with your children closer to the date. Parents can help during this week by sending in traditional Qatari ornaments and traditional clothes items for the week. We will send the items back with your children.

Student Council Photography Competition
02nd December, 2013
The student council is planning a drawing competition for Grades 1-3 and a photography competition for Grades 4-7. All submissions are due by Wednesday December 4th. The class teacher and the students will then vote for the five best ones which will be entered into the competition. The student council will pay for the photos to be printed in large sizes, as well as provide prizes for the top three winners in each competition. The pictures and drawings will be on display for Qatar Week.The judging of the competitions will take place next week (exact date to be announced).

Arabic Teachers Workshop- How to be a successful teacher

Arabic Teachers will be attending the Marium Centre for a workshop on information and advice on how to become successful Teachers by Dr Ahmed Al-Fanjani.

Dr Ibrahim workshop for HUBS staff

Dr Ibrahim Al Khulaifi will be conducting a workshop for HUBS English and Arabic staff on dealing with student behaviour and working on character development. The workshop will also include information and advice on how to build trust between teachers and students.

Hayat High Five Assembly – “Be Responsible” and Robotics Certificates presented to students.

The monthly school assembly was held to present Hayat High Five certificates to students. This month, the school is focusing on being Responsible, one of the Hayat High Five principles. Students who participated in the Robotics competition will be awarded with certificates and presented with a gift for their great efforts.

School wide initiative “Be on time for school”
HUBS is encouraging students to arrive to school on time by rewarding students each month to a lunch out to a restaurant with the Principal. This initiative is called “Be on time for School”. This initiative rewards students for arriving to their classrooms on time each day. Students who arrive on time will enter in to a raffle to be the “attendance winner” of the month. Only students who arrive to class at 7.00am are able to participate in this raffle. Please help support your child in arriving to school on time.

Arabic Guided Reading
The Arabic Guided Reading Program classes has already begun for the 2013 – 2014 school year. Classes will receive Guided Reading instruction for a six-week block of time between now and the end of the school year. Those classes not receiving Guided Reading will have their sessions beginning in February.
Arabic Support Program
This program supports Arabic speaking students who require extra help and students without any prior exposure to the Arabic language. Students are given additional support through small group work, specific skills in Arabic reading, writing and spelling. It takes a fun, interactive approach to language and students will also be offered the opportunity of participating in fun games to practice their lessons. Parents are invited to attend the school on these days to watch their children perform. Showcase starts at 9am, please be on time. We look forward to seeing you at school.

International Week
November 24 – 28th, 2013
International week is a chance for classrooms to celebrate other countries, such as Mexico, France, Canada, Japan, etc. Students will learn about geography, famous sites, cities, food, peoples, language and art and share it with others. This is a great chance to learn about different cultures. The week ends with some classes doing a performance from their country during Showcase.

Hayat High Five Assembly - We had an assembly on November 25th to recognize our students who have exemplified our Hayat High Five expectations. This month we will be focusing on being “Respectful”. Great work from all out students!!

Robotics participants Presentation and Participation awards
November 25th, 2013
It was a truly special assembly November 25th at Hayat. The students and coaches received recognition for their hard work and efforts as the younger children marvelled at the amazing accomplishments of their leaders.
We are truly proud of our robotics teams at Hayat and the pride and school spirit they have inspired. We eagerly look forward to continuing down the exciting path these coaches and students are leading us. Look out for Hayat in 2014!

Yellow Day Celebration
November 21st, 2013
BKG1- KG1 students and teachers will participate in Yellow Colour Day on Thursday the 15th November. Students will involve themselves in art and craft activities using the yellow colour and will celebrate with friends in the classroom.

BC Ministry of Education Certification

The Quran Competition: HUBS has sent out application forms with the students. Please fill out the form and send it back to school with your child if you would like them to participate. Please look out for further information closer to the competition day. (see link provided for the application form).

Parents, please sign up at the school for an appointment with your child's English Teacher. Appointment sheets will be placed on the bulletin board at the front of the school.
Arabic teachers will be located in the green space area. No appointments necessary for the Arabic Teacher.
Arabic Elementary teachers: Green space area near the Administrators Office.
Arabic Kindergarten Teachers: Green space in the Kindergarten area.

Qatar National Robotic Olympiad
01st - 02nd November, 2013
On November 1st and 2nd for the first time ever Hayat Universal School will be participating in the Qatar National Robot Olympiad. Over 350 teams will compete in the event and HUBS will be sending 3 of them. One of the teams will be comprised of intermediate girls, coached by Miss Nicki and they will compete in the open category. The grade 7 boys team will be coached by Mr. Ryan and they will participate in the regular category. In addition, Miss Sun Hee and Miss Jackie will be coaching the third team, comprised of grade 6 and 5 boys in the regular category.
We are so proud at Hayat of these young driven individuals and would like everyone to lend their well wishes as they represent our great school!

At Hayat we are honoured to have been chosen to be a part of a promotional video for the Qatar National Robotics competition. On Sunday, October 27th and Monday, October 28th a film crew will be working with our robotics teams and coaches. They will also document their progress in the competition on Friday. We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to showing the bright young minds of Hayat!
